SMarteenies Art Show was
one of the first programmes
commissioned for the new BBC
Children's Digital Pre-School Channel
then called BBC Choice. Smarteenies
was recorded in May 2000 and
subsequently launched on the new BBC
Kids Channel retitled Cbeebies in
2002.
SMarteenies was shown daily until
2008.
Doogy Dog had been originally created
for the 1999 Edinburgh Festival as a
realistic looking Joke Telling Dog and
Homelessperson's sidekick.
It was here he was spotted and given
this his big break.
Doogy is a busy, fun loving, Puppet
helper currently enjoying retirement
in Nottingham.
Smarteenies was the pre-school version
of the CBBC Art Show 'SMart' hence the
title,
'SMarteenies.'

Review
2004 (culture.gov) The
top performing programmes based on average share
demonstrate the
variety of the
offering and the way in which CBeebies continues
to push the boundaries
for pre-school children. The channel premiered
the first pre-school
drama, Balamory, which had an 8% share and
received critical acclaim.
Tikkabilla revived the much loved magazine
format of
Play School, with every show being a journey of
discovery and learning,
receiving a 7% share. Smarteenies, a
“make and do” art show, became the number one
performing programme on
CBeebies with 9% share (in digital homes
containing children over 4
years old). Fimbles, (7% share) the
third CBeebies landmark
show.
